CAB Finds Its Guardian Again, The NEW President Is Former Captain Sourav Ganguly

There's no doubt that the eligible heir to the President's chair of CAB at this point of time is none but our own Dada, Sourav Ganguly. And that's why, the news of his appointment as the new CAB chief stirs so much of happiness in Bengal as well as the nation. The celebrated and probably the most successful among the Indian captains till date, Sourav Ganguly is a "Dada", in the truest sense of the term.

Following the death of the former and the most successful CAB chief of the time, Jagmohan Dalmiya, there had been so much of uncertainty on choosing the most eligible successor. However, the suspense ends with Bengal's CM Mamata Banerjee (with the graceful presence of the CAB officials) announcing Sourav Ganguly as the new President.

During this phase, there's been another development with Dalmiya's son replacing Sourav Ganguly as one of the two joint secretaries of CAB. However, the other joint secretary Biswarup Dey will continue as treasurer.

Regarding the announcement, Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee has said that she never wanted to come in the decision of the CAB, which is a sovereign body and had all the reins in their own hand, However, she finds herself fortunate while announcing the name of the new CAB President. At the same time she has also said that there was no political intervention in the CAB's decision.
During the splendid evening following the announcement, the CM along with the interim sports minister Arup Biswas has said, " We are going through a big crisis after his (Dalmiya) unfortunate death. Someone has to head CAB. Dalmiya loved cricket so much. So it's important that the people closed to him (should run the show)... cricket family is most important. My only request to all of you that be together, remain united and take the Jaguda's legacy forward."

After all this hullaballoo following the announcement, the 43-year-old Ganguly said on his part, "Anything in life is a new challenge. I am particularly happy that Avishek is coming into administration as it is a very emotional time for him. Myself, Biswarup, Subir would all work together and there won't be any problems. We have 117 (actually 121) members and we will decide the way forward."

However, such a scenario puts Dalmiya junior as a big gainer as he managed to get into a respectable position in this whole episode, even without having the least of the knowledge. Such a decision was likely to create quite a big controversy, however it was subdued following the government's intervention. Banerjee said that "After Dalmiya's demise, the CAB needed a guardian and hence these decisions have been taken till the association's elections in July, 2016."

As for the other joint secretary Subir Ganguly, he ius quite happy with the decision. He said, "We all are really happy and more so because we could bring Abhishek to the cab cricket administration."
