The Demise Of A Learner Marks The End Of An Era: RIP APJ Abdul Kalam

He was the one who was enthused with the belief that Government is "of the people, by the people and for the people". For APJ Abdul Kalam, it's the people who have given him the respect, the position and the reverence and made him reach such a height. No wonder, titles like the Eleventh President, DRDO scientist and Bharat Ratna simply existed as nothing but the accolades to his achievements. He was someone who love to exist simply as a human being beyond all the titles.

As he passed away on Monday, 27th July following a cardiac arrest while talking to the students of the Indian Institute of Management, the only thing that seemed to make the nation cry is the void that is being created. He is a legendary example of inspired living who has led a simple life, in spite of having such a sparkling career.
On the evening of 27th July, the nation was simply awestruck, when Kalam breathed his last while talking to the students (something which he loved the most). Referred as India's Missile Man, APJ Abdul Kalam was a quintessence of indomitable spirit. The oddities have never been an obstacle for him. Despite the poverty, education showed him the light of hope. Plunged in the darkness of poverty, Kalam had to face hard times with a sheer spirit, a life-force that never allow him to cease the struggle. To meet the both ends meet, Abdul Kalam had to distribute newspaper to support his family and that's how he used to earn enough to continue with his studies.

After he graduated with Physics, he decided to enrol himself in Aeronautical Engineering to become a pilot. However, the journey for him was differently etched. He became a DRDO scientist and the technical advisor of Prime Minister. Later he became the President of India on 2002 and that's the time, from when Kalam brought Rashtrapati Bhavan at the access of the common people.

A true enthusiast and an optimist till his last day, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam tweeted on Monday "Going to Shillong. To take course on Livable Planet earth at IIM. @APJAbdulKalam."

According to the reports, Kalam breathed his last two hours after he was wheeled into the ICU of Bethany Hospital at 6.30pm. He suffered a massive cardiac arrest during a speech in IIM Shillong. On hearing the news the Meghalaya Governor V Shanmughanathan, rushed to the hospital. However, the great soul could not be revived, despite the best efforts of the medical team formed of celebrated doctors from the Indian Army. Despite medical team best efforts, he could not be revived.

Chief Secretary PBO Warjiri has said that he has taken significant measures after discussing with the Union Home Secretary LC Goyal regarding the necessary arrangements for carrying Kalam's body from Guwahati to Delhi on Tuesday morning.

Following his demise, a even-day national mourning will be declared by the Centre, Union Home Secretary LC Goyal said yesterday to the reporters. Accordingly, both the Houses of Parliament will and make obituary references and adjourn in order to pay homage to his memory.

An aeronautics engineer from Madras Institute of Technology, Kalam has made enormous contribution to the missile programme in India. In fact, the program itself was the brain child of this great man who was then appointed as the Chief Scientific Adviser to Vajpayee. He was also the architect of the Pokhran nuclear test in 1998.

It leaves no doubt that the nation will mourn the demise of APJ Abdul Kalam always.
